Guide
to Gay Orlando
Take
a trip through Orlando!
A
Watery Wonderland With Charming Neighborhoods
A proliferation of lakes, the number of which can not be boasted by
any other American city, forces Orlando roads and lanes to meander
through charming neighborhoods,
playfully deviating from the usual urban grid plan. While this may
make navigation a bit problematic for the newcomer, you will soon
become fond of the many tree lined (often cobblestone) streets which
seductively hug the curvey shorelines of many a wetland park, pristine
lake, or beautifully developed inner-city oasis.

Mapping
Out Gay Orlando
Full color Gay-Orlando Area Road Maps, developed by GayDays.com,
are available at The Center
(GLBCC - Gay Lesbian Bisexual Community Center of Central Florida
/ 946 N. Mills Ave / 407 228- 8272) by donation. The maps feature
handy location indicators for most LesBiGay places of interest, including
bars, shopping,
places of worship, and major tourist attractions and theme
parks. |
Rainbow
Row
Though not quite The Castro or The Village, Orlando has just recently
spawned it's own little gay business district, affectionately known
in the community as Rainbow Row. Beginning in the 900 block of Mills
Avenue and proceeding north toward Virginia Avenue (an area refereed
to as The Vi-Mi) you will
find an eclectic assortment of LesBiGay shops, eateries, watering
holes, The Center, a pharmacy, and even a gallery.

Gay,
Lesbian,Bisexual Community Center Of Central Florida
Since downtown Orlando is but a speck on the more than 101 square
miles which fall within the limits of this sprawling suburban-like
city with it's many micro business and bedroom communities centers
peppered throughout, it's difficult for any one area to be singled
out as the center of anything.
Therefore
Gay-Orlando looks to The Center to provide a community focal point,
along with meeting space, a library, counseling, youth programs,
support, and the community calendar. Through it's Council of Presidents
program, local leaders of almost every LesBiGay organization and
Aids service organizations meet regularly to insure that the needs
of the community are met, without unnecessary duplication of services.
