Center Board Names New President
The Gay, Lesbian & Bisexual Community Center (The Center) elected Dr. Martha Marinara as its new President after the resignation of Linda Potkovic on April 6, 2008. Linda “P”, as she is known in the GLBT Community, has served on the Center’s board for nearly three years and as its President for almost two years.
According to Linda “P”, “I have to resign due to personal reasons but will continue to serve as the HIV Testing Site Coordinator and [will be] volunteering.” The Center’s Board of Director’s is extremely grateful for Linda’s dedication and commitment to our community. The organization and Board have grown because of her leadership. The Board also announced Hank Lewis as Secretary after Dr. Marinara’s election to President.
In her first comments to the Board after her election, Dr. Marinara noted, “This is a very exciting and challenging time for The Center. We are rapidly running out of space and must commit ourselves to meeting the needs of a growing community and finding new ways to elevate our relevancy to all members of our community. That must be our priority.”
The Center is an organizing force within the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender (GLBT) community serving as a source for information, education, advocacy and support. The Center works to foster the personal development and quality of life of the community it serves, as well as to increase understanding and acceptance within the greater Central Florida area. The Center is celebrating more than 30 years of service to the Central Florida Community.

The Jewish Community Center Presents
MotherSON
Saturday, May 10th • 8 PM
MotherSON, a semi-autobiographical solo play which deals with a young Jewish man and his mother and their evolving relationship after he comes out to her. The one-man show stars Jeffrey Solomon, who effortlessly switches between playing a twenty-something gay man and his forty-something -- forlorn -- mother.
“MotherSON is the perfect play for skittish parents of gay and lesbian children," wrote the Chicago Free Press. "Solomon is deeply convincing in the dual role he has created here…he is so believable, we forget we’re watching only one actor.”
A discussion will be held after the performance with Solomon and the Orlando Chapter of PFLAG, Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. Some of PFLAG members are going to dinner before the show. Come join us by contacting Jay Caballero.
The performance will take place in the Harriett & Hymen Lake Cultural Auditorium at the JCC at 851 N. Maitland Ave. Tickets are $50 for VIP front row seats, $10 for members of the JCC and $12 for non-members, and are available online at www.orlandojcc.org or by calling Jennifer Becher 407-645-5933 x245.
