Having Fun On the Water In Orlando

Undeniably, the words water and fun are just about as synonymous as hot body and bathing suit. Since that is the case, thank the high heavens for organizations like GLOWS (Gays & Lesbians On Water Skis). Formed in April of 1990, GLOWS is Orlando’s premiere Gay & Lesbian water sport club.

GLOWS’ goal is, simply, to bring people together to enjoy water skiing and other water sports. Beginners and novice skiers are welcomed and encouraged at GLOWS. They will learn from the very best, as GLOWS’ intermediate and expert participants also join in the recreation. It is a social event and a day on the water as much as it is a day of water skiing.

GLOWS doesn’t operate by a set schedule; if people want to go skiing, GLOWS goes skiing. Throughout the summer months, it is common for skiers to meet in the afternoon, or early evening. All that you have to do is contact Gary at the number listed in this story. You don’t even need your own equipment, GLOWS has all of that for you; including lifejackets, skis and other water necessities.

Skiing isn’t the only thing that goes on with GLOWS. If you can do it on the water then you can probably do it with this ready group. Many of this ski club’s members are also into wake-boarding, Central Florida’s most popular water sport. Play a wildly wet game of "spray wars," while you go knee-boarding, or try your luck at trick-skiing, barefoot skiing and more.

To accommodate the cost of upkeep and maintenance for the boat and the additional water sports equipment, GLOWS asks that you make a donation of approx. $10 toward your afternoon on the water.
