Guiding Statements for Joy MCC

Our Core Values

INCLUSION: Love is our greatest moral value.  Authentic inclusion is a primary focus of our ministry. We passionately believe that all people, as they are and where they are, should be welcomed at God’s table.

COMMUNITY:  Our deep desire is to offer a safe, open, and beloved community for people to worship, learn, share, and grow in their faith. We are a hopeful community with a strong belief in the common good where love and peace exist in each one of us.

SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION: A message of total liberation guides our ministry. We believe that when people are invited to experience God through the life and ministry of Christ, lives are transformed.

SOCIAL ACTION: We are committed to uplifting all people and standing with those who suffer under the weight of oppressive systems. We are guided by our commitment to global justice and human rights.

Our Mission

Our mission is taking the doors off the church and the church to the streets.

Joy MCC is the spiritual home to a multi-cultural, inclusive, and diverse community of faith. We are rooted in the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus. We experience a vibrant spirituality that is positive, practical, and progressive.

We’ve always been a totally open and affirming church. We welcome the full participation of people of all races, cultures, ages, abilities, spiritual backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities. We share a deep sense of community where our diversity is celebrated, not merely tolerated.”

We are called to:

·        Fill Searching Hearts by sharing the Good News of God’s unconditional love for all people and providing paths for healing and growth wherever people are in their lives.

·        Feed Hungry People by personal acts of compassion to help those in need and by participating in collective efforts to support the hungry and those experiencing homelessness.

·        Fight for Justice by advocacy and actions to end inequality, poverty, and other forms of injustice.

Our Vision

Our vision is to transform ourselves as we transform the world by taking the doors off the church and the church to the streets.

  • Filling Searching Hearts - More and more, people will experience spiritual transformation in their lives. We increasingly will become a place to grow and a place to give. As an engaged church many will be inspired to live out their life’s purpose. We will grow in diversity as we become more multicultural and multigenerational.

  • Feeding Hungry People - We will continue the excellence of our current ministries to feed the hungry. We will also enhance and expand those ministries. We will strengthen relationships with our partner groups. More of our congregants will become engaged in serving and supporting these ministries.

  • Fighting for Justice - We have been prepared by our past. Our crusade for the freedom of LGBTQ people, the battle against HIV/AIDS, and the solidarity we share with our neighbors at Pulse inspire us to fight on. We will fiercely continue to fight for justice. We will be a growing force for equality and social change. This quest is our history and our future.

Statement of Faith

Our Faith

“Come, taste, and see.” Jesus Christ, You invite all people to Your open table. You make us Your people, a beloved community. You restore the joy of our relationship with God, even in the midst of loneliness, despair, and degradation. We are each unique and we all belong, a priesthood of all believers. Baptized and filled with Your Holy Spirit, You empower us to be Your healing presence in a hurting world.

We expect to see Your reign on earth as it is in heaven as we work toward a world where everyone has enough, wars cease, and all creation lives in harmony. We affirm Your charge to all of humanity to care for the land, sea, and air. Therefore, we will actively resist systems and structures which are destroying Your creation.

With all of creation we worship You—every tribe, every language, every people, every nation. We know You by many names, Triune God, beyond comprehension, revealed to us in Jesus Christ, who invites us to the feast.

Amen.
